Frequently Asked Questions

Read below for the most commonly asked questions we receive from our patients. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have additional questions.

How often should I get an eye exam?

For your young children, we recommend they receive an eye exam once a year to ensure they are not silently suffering from any eye health problems and to prevent any conditions from becoming worse.

For young adults and adults who do not wear glasses or contact lenses, we recommend you receive an eye exam at least once every two years to maintain eye health.

For young adults and adults who do wear glasses or contact lenses, recommend you receive an eye exam at least once a year to detect any changes and to ensure that you have the appropriate prescription and care.

For those over the age of 55, we recommend you receive an eye exam once or twice a year as this stage of life can cause your eye health to shift more quickly.

What happens during an eye exam?

A comprehensive eye exam at Eye Love Spearfish evaluates your overall eye health. Before your exam, we will ask about your family’s history and your history of vision problems. This painless examination can also involve a glaucoma test, visual acuity test, or a refraction test. We can then determine what further action is needed or not needed.

How do I know if I have the right prescription?

If you have headaches, eye strain, or blurry vision, you may need to schedule an eye exam to have your eyes re- evaluated. If you are experiencing these symptoms and you don’t have glasses or contacts, it may be time for a pair! Come schedule an eye exam with us and we will ensure you have the appropriate prescription for your eyes!

What is 20/20 vision?

20/20 vision means that one has normal vision and can read and view objects clearly that are 20 ft away. People with 20/20 vision can still encounter problems with colors or seeing at night. This is why we recommend that even those with 20/20 vision should still have an eye exam at least once or twice every two years to maintain eye health and prevent any underlying eye conditions from becoming worse.

Can I do anything to prevent vision loss?

It is proven that eye diseases like glaucoma and vision loss can be prevented with early diagnoses and proper treatment. This is why we encourage frequent visits so we can help you maintain and prolong your eye health.

“Dr. Antwan Randolph is by far the best eye doctor I have been too and will be working with me to improve my vision. The eye glasses in the boutique are top high end brands and not your big box owned frames. I look forward to working with this fully locally family owned business.”
